The Blind Machinist

I have 2020 vision for 20/20!

As the clock turned to 2020, I have 50 days to make a miracle happen. As I am writing this, the Corvette is at Joey Martin Race Cars getting the final touches done. Touches sounds like a small task?

So, we will use final assembly! You be the judge. Over the next 27 days here is the plan:

On January 8, I pick up the motor at Fulton Competition. On January 11, Jimmy Boykin, Bryan Renfro, and myself will deliver it to JMRC. We will thrash that weekend to set the motor between the frame rails. Before they return home Sunday night, we will attack anything Joey has left on the LONG to do list.

My old friend Carlos Rijos has volunteered to come help as I will stay in Florida that week. Carlos and I will organize the trailer, service the generator, etc. On Tuesday, Mark Dalquest from Idaho flies in to wire the car. As he is working on that, Joey will handle plumbing the car with Fragola hoses and fittings from Race Parts Solutions.

The GOAL is, when Mark and I return home in different directions, January 19 the car is plumbed and wired, the fire system installed, and it looks like a car again.

Joey will have another week to check every bolt, set up the ride height, and adjust all four RideTech triple adjustable coilovers to a starting setting.

I plan to return on Saturday, January 25 to pick up the car. This gives me 20 days to dyno the car at Brewer Speed and Racing, have the four wheel alignment done at Wolfe Autoworks, and hopefully a few days of testing the new guidance system.

Then, on February 19, the team heads West for the 1,500 mile trip across I-20 until the GPS says we have arrived at Spaceport America in New Mexico with a plan and a goal: to return home with the title of “Worlds Fastest Blind Man.”

This is only the plan for January and February of 2020. Oh yeah, sometime spring of 2020, Jennifer and I will say our vows to each other. She has her dress picked out as she has said no to a rockabilly wedding. Just as I wore a new pair of white Converse to my high school prom, I might break out a new pair of Vans for the occasion!

My goal is 20/20 clear for 2020. I have 50 days to make it happen. Each day I will be tested I feel sure. Then I remind myself my old saying…

“You can make excuses or make it happen.”

It is time to walk the walk!!!

Stay tuned,
Dan Parker
